Miscellaneous MAPCO Alaksa Petroleum Projects

North Pole, Alaska

  • Crude Feed Storage Tank: Design of a 100,000 bbl storage tank for crude feed from pipeline. Convert existing 60,000 bbl crude feed tank to return oil tank in conjunction with the existing 30,000 bbl return oil tank.
  • Jet Fuel Tank Renovation: Detailed Design for tankage replaement of four 10,000 bbl tanks and one new 20,000 bbl tank.
  • Naphtha Fuel Storage and Loading: Design of a naphtha turbine fuel (NATF) product storage and truck loading system. Produced 5,000 BPD of naphtha for Alyeska pump stations. Design included installation of a new product air cooler, salt dryer, load pump, filter coalescer and two truck loading arms with new meters and controls.
  • Vapor Recovery Units: Process and mechanical design of new vapor recovery systems at product load-out facilities.
  • Debottlenecking: Detailed Design of multiple small debottlenecking efforts.
  • Heater Fuels: Complete process and mechanical design for switching crude heater fuels from naphtha to butane.
  • Light-Ends Fractionation: Process Study using two existing towers and one new tower to fractionate light ends into propane, iso-butane, n-butane, and depentanizing the feed to the aromatics extraction unit. Included sizing all new equipment.
  • Benzene Fractionation: Detailed Design of a new fractionation unit to reduce the benzene concentration in aromatics blend stock for compliance with federal requirements.

Light Kerosene Stripper and Kerosene Storage Tank

North Pole, Alaska

Installation of new larger light kero stripper in crude unit No. 2. This new stripper was mounted atop the third level structure, involving major structural and piping modifications. Also, a new light kero reboiler was added to the second level structure.

Gasoline, Naphtha and Depropanizer Debottleneck

North Pole, Alaska

Increase gasoline production by processing all the overhead liquid from both crude units. Increased the depropanizer capacity and naphtha extraction capacity.
